« on: January 21, 2008, 07:34:34 PM »

I just wanted to personally thank you all for showing up at the Pasco Sports Show this weekend guys, it was great to meet & see so many! I really didn't expect to see so many since there was very little response about it? But you guys were real troopers & several brought friends & wives. Thanks a ton!! And yes, Bam stopped by & picked up his DVDs!! (grin) Thanks Bam, you're a great guy with great friends!! Hope to see you again?

Elknut,

Are you going to be at the show in Monroe this year?  Wont make it to Puyallup as they always schedule it the last weekend of duck/goose season.  Would love to finally "meet" you after all these years yacking on these boards.

Dan, great to hear from you, it's been a while for sure! I am not doing any more shows this year in WA. I'm off to Utah possibly a little later then back here in ID for a couple more Seminars. Hopefully we can hook up one of these times? How old is your son now?

Paul,

I posted up on the other one too, you can ignore that one... ;)

My kid is 12 now, we've been chasing birds like crazy but since the holidays it's been a little slow.  We're headed to the Tri-Cities area this weekend for one more go for geese so hopefully we can get into them.  He killed his 3rd deer this year with his rifle, one more and he'll have braggin rights on his old man.   >:(  I just keep reminding him he should be thanking me for taking him.   ;)

I wish I would have known you were going to be over there, I might have been able to make the run.  Of course, had I been a little more active on some of these boards I might have known you were.    :dunno:

We'll catch up one of these days.

Paul,

I wont take him elk hunting yet, I've got to try to get a few more myself before I let him go.   :P  I'm sure it wont be long though, if our rifle season wasnt so crazy in this state I'd probably take him but I'm not ready to join the zoo.  Although, I may start putting him in for some of the limited tags on the better hunts, at least he'll earn his points that way.

It sure is fun bird hunting with him now though, I shoot my camera more than the gun (at least as much as the weather allows me too.)  He killed his first pheasant this year and his first Hun so we scratched a few more off the list.

We still drool over your pics on your website.   ;)

Elknut, Thank you very much for the DVD pack.  Just got back from a business trip and had opportunity to view them.  Very informative and educational.  Lots of light bulbs came on for me as I have heard all those sounds, but haven't always understood the context of what it means in the herd.  I would highly recommend these to anyone.  Buy the others for entertainment, this is A+ learning.  BTW, the guys I had at the seminar all thought you were great too.  Thanks!   Jim, it was certainly a pleasure to visit with you as well, I wish we had more time to talk elk, I could tell you were a "been there done that" kind of guy. What bow are you shooting these days? Was it a Matthews?

elknut, thank you. but I consider myself a novice still. having only gotten into elk hunting since 99 with 4 animals harvested. washington is a challenge due to limited bull tags and thick stuff on the west sides bull units. But, hey, it still beats a day at work!!
I shoot a browning striker thats now 9 years old. I'm slow to upgrade bows but am shopping on a takedown recurve because of renewed interest in the traditional stuff.

Jim, that's a great percentage you've got going there on elk! You are well above the statistical average of most bowhunters, especially OTC hunts!

You'll love shooting & hunting with a recurve, since a new one is in order I agree a 100% on the T/D model. I too am in the market for a new bow, I'm working with Hornseeker on here to hook me up with a 3 piece longbow, he does very nice work, but will it shoot good??? (grin) I have no doubts! Good Luck in your adventures!!!

Elknut,

I know it's time for him to get an elk but I'l probably just start putting in for the limited entry stuff for him and see how it goes.  I'd rather not do the general season in this state with him at this age.

If you wander over to the waterfowl or upland bird forums there's a picture or two of him posted over there.

Dan, checked out the photo there on the goose hunt! Wow, those were some wild conditions! (grin) Your boy is getting dang big there, he's going to be a big guy for sure! I think he's ready for an elk hunt, if he can hunt in conditions like that he's a shoe in on an archery elk hunt!! (grin)
